This register is available for all voluntary sector community & sporting organisations to use - where they have a policy of not applying for, or accepting, funds from pokie 'trusts' or casino 'trusts'.

In setting up this register, GamblingWatch wants to do two things: 1/. acknowledge that these groups have made a conscious choice not to receive funds from the proceeds of these most harmful forms of gambling, despite any difficulties this may cause them and the services they provide; 2/. acknowledge that such a policy is not always practical for hard-pressed voluntary organisations, where fundraising is more difficult than ever before, and when central government has chosen to irresponsibly remove several community funding streams in favour of pushing organisations towards applying for gambling proceeds - we do not intend to decry or belittle the work any community organisation does.

GamblingWatch is aware that there are many groups in New Zealand that have made the choice not to receive these funds - not all wish to publicise this, but those that do are welcome to contact us (gamblingwatch@xtra.co.nz) and ask to go on the register. We will certainly be promoting your stance to non-gambling funding bodies - in the hope that they will look positively on applications for support from you. We will also be promoting the Register in the general community - in the hope that members of the community will express their appreciation for your difficult stand by supporting you and your organisation in appropraiate ways.

Groups joining the Register will receive a signed certificate from GamblingWatch, stickers to use in their establishment and permission to use the logo alongside on their website and letterheads, should they wish. If your group is interested in joining the register, or knows a group that may be interested, please contact us.

Alternatives to Violence (Waikato) organises monthly weekend workshops which offer conflict resolution skils  to participants, their partners and their teenage children.  Childcare, all meals and transport within the Hamilton area are provided so that the whole family can benefit from this experiential workshop.  Over 2,000 people have attended our workshops in the past 15 years.  A registration fee of $30 per family is requested and the other $1,500 to run each workshop is sought from funders who are not involved in the gambling industry.  We do not wish to benefit from the misery that has been caused to people who can ill afford to lose money.  As we are all volunteers we can operate on a very limited budget but we only survive through the dedication of our members.
